THE BAN ON TAN BEDS FOR FASHION WEEK... A Philosophical View

Today , I read the most interesting article from " The Huffington Post" stating that runway models will be banned on using tanning beds for Fashion Week.

For Liverpool fashion Week  was the first instated that there should be a ban on tanning beds. Reason being it is to protect the models from Skin Cancer and other health risks.

Amanda Moss states , "We want our models to look their absolute best, which means not putting themselves at risk of skin cancer or premature aging from the sunbeds," she says.

I want to take a moment and talk about this ...  In a way , I am very glad  that the fashion industry started to pay attention to health of models.  In 2011, the fashion industry realized that there is a vicious disease of Anorexia afflicting young models. I think this new trend of cautiousness  to the well being of models acknowledges positive body image and health.

Amanda Moss also states , "We hope that by showing how gorgeous our models look at this year's Liverpool Fashion Week, we will help sunbed users in the city realize they don't need to get on the beds to look great. Our girls can still have that golden glow, but they'll get it from a bottle, not from the beds."

So many people die from Skin Cancer ever year due to tanning in the harsh sun or abusing the use of tanning beds. We have a rapid decline of young people dying to this over exposure of  sun  and beds.
Hopefully , this trend will cause some uprising to other topics and maybe shed light on how to avoid exposure and perhaps proper sun usage for those hot summer days in which we are obligated at times to face.. .

I know so many young woman who look up to advertisings, that they try to aspire to be like the models. Thin, tan , glowing hair , ect. Advertising makes you yearn to want for something and acquire it, as  your own .. like make up , hand bags, a certain hair style perhaps .... There is nothing wrong with advertising , but to make you to aspire to something that will in fact damage your well being  and your health is a major problem ..

Another thing to ponder is that, a few years ago we did not know the damages to the sun .. In the 1970's women use to tan out side  with baby oil especially in California .. Again aspiring to be like the advertising of the perfect female .. in this case it was .. Farrah Fawcett.  The golden girl who graced herself on the cover of every advertisement imaginable to Liquor , Cars, Noxzema .. and most importantly Charles Angels ...

Now that we know the damages of sun and  tan beds we try hard to stay away from it and reaching for a bottle to  get our new source of acquiring a golden glow.. But do we know if there are harsh chemicals in those bottles ..???Do we know the outcome of these paints that will turn our skin from pasty to orange in an hour?

Maybe those chemicals will do harm to us in a few years .. Harm in which we wont know until years to come .... Just like the sun tanning , just like Tan beds ?? we didn't know until it was tooo late..

So now I ask you ... is it worth it? is the price of beauty and advertising worth it? Worth it  to your life ? Worth it to your health ? Worth it just to look nice a toasty for 2 weeks? Especially for a trend that may go in or out depending on the season , the time , and the look of the moment ..

Off course .. at the end of the day it is up to you ..  to choose if you still want to use a tanning bed or a bottle or to go unprotected on a hot sunny day .. its up to you to choose your looks for your health ...

Choose wisely ...
